When stress levels rise, compassion and patience tend to do the opposite. As a small business ourselves, we know how vital it is to extend a bit of both whenever you have some to spare. This is why the rest of this email is dedicated to spotlighting some of the small but mighty local businesses that we’ve had the pleasure of working with over the years.
WetInk Fine Art Printers
Established way back in 1999, WetInk is a fine art printer based in Pretoria, with satellite studios in Cape Town and Vancouver.
When we started Satori in 2015, we knew that premium quality would be an essential way for us to distinguish ourselves from the competition. The folks at WetInk helped us achieve a level of quality that made sure our notebooks were something that people would hold on to long after they filled the last page.
Whether you're looking to print your next masterpiece, or print the flyers for your next exhibition, you can’t go wrong with this dedicated bunch.
Golden Goose Artistry
Based in Brooklyn Mall in Pretoria, the Golden Goose Artistry is known for curating some of the best South African art and design you'll find anywhere. Visiting their store is a crash course in the immense talent we have in SA. They were also one of the first retailers to take a chance on us by stocking our products before anyone knew who we were – and our notebooks were still pretty rough back then. By passing on customer feedback and sharing their own retail wisdom, they helped us elevate our products to where they are today.
Small businesses have the power to transform communities. This is why Wanderland collaborates with local women, helping them establish additional sources of income by turning their art into beautiful homeware products. This collaboration includes the artists whose art is turned into designer products, and extends to outsourcing production to local women-owned small businesses.
We worked with Wanderland to turn some of that art into an exclusive range of notebooks – which you can grab here.
Brunch is a delightful indie shop housed in the bustling 44 Stanley inner-city precinct in Joburg. The shop is brimming with screen prints, cards, zines, and stationery that you won't find anywhere else – all made by a mix of international and local artists, designers, and illustrators. We recently worked with Brunch on a range of custom notebooks, which is still one of our favourite projects of the year.
When you're a small business in a big world, the people you work with become more than just suppliers and clients. They guide you and shape you. You learn people's names, and miss them when they move on. We wouldn't have come as far as we have if it wasn't for the people we've had the pleasure of working with along the way. Whatever drama the world delivers next, we're thrilled to keep working with such fantastic humans.
